4-Fluoroamphetamine was first synthesized by Alexander Shulgin, who developed a wide variety of amphetamine substitutes of the phenylethylamine type.

4-FA entered the recreational drug market in 2001.

Since 2008, 4-FA has been the subject of numerous seizures in Europe. It has often been found in tablets sold as ecstasy. Powders and liquids have also been seized. In France, three 4-FA seizures were reported in 2009 by the SINTES (National Identification System for Toxicants and Substances) system of the French Observatory for Drugs and Drug Addiction (OFDT). The product consumed was presented as amphetamine each time.

Presentation

It is most commonly found in white powder or tablet form. It has been found in pills sold as ecstasy.

Legality

4-FA is classified on the list of narcotics. The National Commission on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropics (CNSP) decided, at its meeting on December 17, 2010, in favor of including 4-fluoroamphetamine on the list of narcotics. ^[1]

Pharmacology

4-FA works by releasing dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine and inhibiting their reuptake.

Unlike amphetamine, 4-fluoroamphetamine inhibits serotonin reuptake much more markedly but without causing depletion of stores.

You can always snort it, but according to the many reviews on 4-FA, oral administration has a bioavailability equivalent to or even superior to snorting. I’m not saying that this is the case in absolute terms, but that’s what I understood by searching everywhere on specialized forums and reading user feedback. It’s a substituted amphetamine (fluorine atom in the fourth position of the phenyl group), so yes, close to “speed” but not identical because the substitution gives the molecule a significant effect on serotonin, which is not the case with “classic” amphetamine, which acts mainly on noradrenaline and dopamine. Dosages

When ingested, a dosage of 80-140 mg is considered common. A dosage of 50-80 mg causes a more moderate trip.

Consumption mode

When ingested, the effects of 4-FA are felt after 30 minutes to 1 hour . The entire experience lasts about 6 hours, peaking around 2-4 hours. Some users report trips lasting 12 hours.

It is also possible to snort 4-FA, although this damages the nasal mucosa and can be painful for about fifteen minutes. The effects will be shorter and more intense than taking it orally.

It is also possible to inject it, smoke it, or take it rectally as a plug.
